The video follows the release of his new visual album, “Endless”
Following Friday’s release of Frank Ocean’s visual album Endless,
a representative for the R&B singer told fans to “Keep an eye out
this weekend for more from Frank.” Right on cue, this morning brought
the release of a new song not appearing on Endless.
The track is entitled “Nikes”,
but it’s in no way a tribute to the Swoosh. Rather, Frank critiques
materialism, self-indulgence, and the artificial existence of celebrity
culture. He sings (in a particularly high pitch), “All you want is Nikes
(Yeah)/ But the real one’s just like you (Tell these niggas)/ Just like
me (Tell these guys you ain’t basic).” The song’s accompanying music
video, meanwhile, takes place at a lavish party where clothes are
optional, drugs are excessive, and where there’s a rapping chihuahua.
The track also hears Frank honor ASAP Yams, Pimp C, and Trayvon Martin.
Watch the video below,. Presumambly,
“Nike” is the first preview of Frank’s second new studio album, due out
sometime this weekend.
