BEING THE PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
Combatant greetings to all members of the above students' union government.This present administration in furtherance to fulfilling our campaign promises to the teeming members of the union and in our commitment to ensure the current economic downturn facing us does not have much impact on our daily needs as students and in our undaunted resolve to stand against any form of extortion or exploitation. A progressive meeting of all sellers in university hall of residence was held today and agreement was reached on the price of essential commodities.
It would be recalled that the union had earlier proceeded to evaluate the price of goods and services on campus and the results indicated that extortion on campus, if not arrested and put in jail will grow so big and will be terrorising the union members.
In lieu of the above the new price regulation will be put on all notice board in all hall of residence. Sellers in all hall of residence are in their own interest to comply with the regulated price, and if acted otherwise the union will not hesitate to lock down the shop(s) that go against the union directive.
Finally, we call on all members of the union to be vigilant and report any shop that sells above what has been regulated.

USE OF HOSTELS DURING EXAMINATION PERIOD
The Second Semester Examination of 2015/2016 academic session will soon commence. Consequently, the Dean of Students has approved unrestricted movement of students into the University hostels throughout the period of the examination.This implies hostel occupants will be allowed into the hostel beyond the official 12.00 midnight locking time and 5.00am opening of hostel gates on the condition of students wearing their I.D. card.
This opportunity is mainly to give room for students who like reading on Campus at night hours. Students are hereby encouraged to always go out with their identity card properly hanged during this period for easy identification.
Wishing you all the best in your Examination.
Please be guided accordingly.
STUDENT BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Birthday anniversaries are period of special opportunities given by the Almighty God for adding another year to one’s life, therefore it should be an avenue to celebrate with families, friends and acquaintance in an atmosphere of peace and decency.It has been observed that an ugly trend where friends gather to beat, assault, throw things and molest fellow colleagues is now being practiced in the name of celebrating birthday by students. Attitudes such as beating, pouring of water, pepper, mud, sand and oil on birthday celebrants by students are henceforth prohibited within and outside the University Campus by all FUTA students.
Any violation of this conduct would attract dire consequences as contained in the University Students’ handbook of information.
Please be warned.
VACATION OF UNIVERSITY HOSTELS
The Second Semester 2015/2016 examination is scheduled to hold very soon.Consequently all students who reside in the University hostels are to vacate the hostels immediately after the 2015/2016 second semester examinations for necessary repairs and renovation.
Final year students who wish to stay beyond this stipulated period because of “final year project” are to request for such “permit” by writing to the Dean of Students. Students in this category should note that such permit will not allow for their continued stay in their currently allocated rooms. Such request will be granted strictly on the prerogative of the University authority.

News From The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB,
Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Dibu Ojerinde has declared as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘illegal’ the Post-UTME examination conducted by tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The JAMB boss added that the examination body was not responsible for scrapping the exercise adding that it was cancelled by the Minister of Education after due consultation.
He said these while featuring on Sunrise Daily, an early morning programme on Channels TV.
Noting that there is a difference between screening and test, he said that the initial agreement with institutions was to conduct screening exercise to determine their eligibility.
His words: “Nobody say you should not screen candidates. The screening involves checking of their certificates, subject combination, Jamb scores and other prerequisites to ensure that they meet up with the requirement. It is screening, not test.
“What government asked them to do right from the beginning is screening and not test. Former President Obasanjo said this when he was in power; ‘I did not ask you to conduct another exam, all I say is screen the candidates before they come in’ and that exactly is what the minister is talking about.”
Quoting some sections of the constitution, Ojerinde stressed further that the exercise is unconstitutional and has no legal basis.
“According to section 5, sub-section 1A of the constitution, the general control for the conduct of matriculation examination for admission into all the universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education or whatever name called is vested in JAMB.
“Section 5, sub-section 2 also states; the board shall be responsible for determining matriculation requirements and conducting examination leading to undergraduate admission and also for admission into National Dipoma and National Certificate in Education, NCE.”
Ojerinde said that a uniform screening process will soon be developed.

China24 on CCTV NEWS, an electric lamp manufacturer was
interviewed together with his workers in his factory. The workers are
kids between the ages or 12-18 the most beautiful part of it was that
the kids can on
their own manufacture same.
Now let's come down to Nigeria.
Nigerian students are busy searching for "x" while students in the
developed countries are manufacturing things for the development of
their country.
In Nigeria, our engineering students spend nearly all their time solving
difficult equations and searching for "x".
In Nigeria, students will be asked to search for "x" I do smile and ask
myself how can we use Algebra and simultaneous equation to boost
the economy.
How can we use the located "x" to solve the challenges facing us?
In Nigeria, teacher will draw a circle having dots in it on the chalk
board and tell the kids "this is an Orange" imagine.
In Nigeria, a teacher will be in the class room using acid to change
litmus paper to red on the chalk board. In fact, in Nigeria the best
place to mix acid with base is on chalk board.
In Nigeria, a teacher will be in the class teaching rock and it types
and expect the students to be able to identify them in real sense how
possible?
However, the above are some of the reasons why at 50+ as an oil
producing country we are still
importing tooth-pick and matches. Our brain has been channel to the
fact that failure to go to school will end one up as a domestic servant
of the educated ones which I seriously disagree
with. We can't all be in the class room at the same time and expect
us to catch up with the developed countries, it never done; we will
keep depending on them with such barbaric idea.
Let those that are willing to go into sport be on the field or track not
in class room, Christiano
Ronaldo of Real Madrid FC was expelled from school at the age of 14
and today he is a world
footballer.
Let take those that are good in construction to factories or workshops
not class room. Let's take away pen from our engineering students
and send them out of class.
Let's take away pen from those that are willing to take hoe, cutlass,
hammer, saw, screw driver etc.
Our too much dependent on pen is sending us backward.
To me, spending 5, 6 or more years in tertiary institution is nothing
but a total waste of time, 3 years is enough for engineering courses.
12 calender month is enough for food related courses and 3 or 4
years is enough to be a lawyer. Imagine our youth spending 8years of their lives in university and still our Government don't trust on their expertise rather they travel out of the country..
At this juncture, I will like to call on the government at all level to
look into this and find a lasting solution to it.
Lastly our government should stop sending the talented ones away
by sending them aboard for
training and failed to establish/provide where they will be discharging
what they've learnt or the skills they've acquired upon their arrival. If
we can do this, I believe that few years to come Nigeria will be the
greatest country of the world while others will be on the queue at our
back.
But before then, I remain my humble self. God bless my father land.

I laugh when people say joining RIIAB is a scam.
Working for a government and being paid the same salary as when Dollar was N165 till now is a scam.
Working for years without promotion is a scam.
Working for so long and just getting a sack letter or retiring broke and indebt is a scam.
Serving your country for a year and crying to get a job is a scam.
Not being paid salary for 5months or more is a SCAM.
Not being able to transfer your job to your children is a SCAM
Spending 6years in Primary school 6years in Secondary School 4, 5, 6years in Higher Institution, 1 year Internship (for some) 1year of NYSC and at the end you still roam about looking for non-existing job is the REAL Scam.
Meanwhile someone somewhere is making millions, driving brand new cars etc all in just few months of joining RIIAB without submitting CV, NYSC discharge Certificate etc....and you still say is a scam? You need to meet me +2348160161893

RESOLUTIONS of the meeting held today, by the student's Union in conjunction with the students stakeholders. The meeting was attended by the FACULTY PRESIDENTS, INDIGINEOUS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTS, DEPARTMENT PRESIDENTS , CLASS REPS, SCHOOL GOVERNORS AND OTHER CONCERNED FUTARIANS.
The students Union in conjunction with stakeholders, after considering the current situation of transportation problem on campus, made the following resolutions:
👉1. All departments, faculties and indigenous associations should write a letter to the university vice chancellor through the dean of student's affairs division emphasizing the need for an alternative means of transportation on campus so as to relief futarians of the difficulty being encountered through the shuttle drivers.
👉2. The student's leaders decided that all students should boycott shuttle buses starting from Thursday 9th of this month as a means of showing our grievances to the concerned parties.
👉3. All the students stakeholders should meet on Thursday 9th of this month by 6am at obakekere, so as to enforce the decision made by the representatives of the students at large.
👉4. Also the stakeholders present are enjoined to inform the people they represent and the general populace of the situation on ground and reasons for the entire futarians to boycott the boarding of shuttle buses on thursday..
Lastly, to FUTARIANS: Regardless of what you sacrifice, we want you to know we are acting in your best interest and we urge you to please comply.
