The Efcc has arrested some 400L students of the Federal university of Technology, Akure (Futa) for internet fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo. From information gathered, the arrest was made on the 21st of July, 2016 in their place of residence in Futa, The names of the students arrested were Fasakin Paul (a 400l student of Civil engineering, whose father is the ex-DVC of Futa & current Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji), Ogundile Ademola (also a 400l student of civil engineering) and one known as TJ, a student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA).
FUTA which is known to be a very tedious school has of recent being a host to Internet fraudsters, every youngster wants to venture into online scamming (Yahoo Yahoo) because it pays big, you see them riding in push cars, spending lavishly in clubs, living in expensive houses, wearing exotic and vintage clothes, they also pay off corrupt law enforcement agencies such as the police, which gives them the assurance that they are untouchable.
Information gathered because the arrest has been the talk of the town was that the arrested students were able to swindle unsuspecting foreigners to the tune of 16million naira from which they purchased a 2010 toyota camry(muscle) and a 2006 toyota highlander for themselves, they spent lavishly in clubs, bought anything they wanted and they even showed off their spendings and lifestyles on Instagram, They call themselves the Tsunami Gang!!.
It is a good news to know that some select law enforcement agencies in Nigeria are active and are not corrupt. Am sure with this arrest, the numbers of internet fraudsters will drastically reduce.
